Shopify Flow triggers
Use Flow to send your own email, SMS, or Slack alert when a review event happens
Shopify Flow lets you build custom automations triggered by store events. The app exposes review events as Flow triggers, so you can do things like "post to Slack when a 1-star review comes in" or "send an SMS via Postscript when a review request is due" — without writing any code.
Turning Flow triggers on
In the app, go to Settings > Integrations and toggle Shopify Flow triggers on. You only need to do this once. Flow triggers stay enabled even when the rest of the app updates.
Available triggers
- Product review created — fires when any review is submitted (before moderation). Useful for routing the moderation work to a Slack channel or Trello board.
- Product review approved — fires when you approve a review (or auto-publish approves it). Useful for sharing reviews to social channels or pushing data to analytics tools.
- Low-rating review received — fires only for reviews at or below 3 stars. Pair with an alert action for fast response.
- Review request due — fires when a customer is scheduled to receive a review request email. Use this to send an SMS through Postscript, Klaviyo SMS, or Attentive instead of (or in addition to) the email.
- Review reminder due — fires when the follow-up reminder is due. Same use case as above.
Building a Flow workflow
In Shopify Admin:
- Go to Apps > Shopify Flow
- Click Create workflow
- Pick a trigger from the list — they start with Product Reviews:
- Add an action: send email, post to Slack, send SMS (via Postscript / Klaviyo / Attentive apps you've installed), create a Trello card, etc.
- Activate the workflow
Flow handles everything from there. The app fires the trigger; Flow runs the action.
Common patterns
- Negative review fire alarm —
Low-rating review received→ post to Slack#alertschannel with the review details - SMS review requests —
Review request due→ Postscript send SMS with the secure review link - Auto-share 5-star reviews —
Product review approved(filter rating = 5) → post to your social channel via Buffer - Loyalty program —
Product review approved→ add 50 points to the customer in your loyalty app
