Reviewer country flags
Show a small country flag next to each reviewer's name as social proof
A small country flag next to each reviewer's name is gentle social proof: it shows shoppers that real people from many places bought the product. The app can capture and display this automatically. No customer addresses are ever stored — only the 2-letter ISO country code.
Turning it on
In the app, go to Settings > Reviews and toggle Show reviewer country flag on. The flag appears next to the author name in the review widget and the review carousel.
Where the country comes from
The country is captured at the moment the review is submitted, using one of two sources:
- Verified purchase reviews — country comes from the order's shipping address (most accurate). Falls back to billing address or the customer's default address.
- Storefront-only reviews (guest submissions) — country comes from the visitor's IP via Cloudflare. Falls back to nothing if the IP can't be resolved.
The order-address source is always preferred when available, because it represents where the product actually shipped (not where the customer was browsing from).
Privacy
- The app stores only the 2-letter country code (for example,
US,GB,JP) - Full addresses, IP addresses, and city-level data are never stored
- Customers can't tell which source produced the code — to them, it's just a flag
This is enough for Shopify's standard customer data tier — you don't need to request access to "addresses" or other protected fields just to show country flags.
Disabling
If you turn the setting off, no flag appears. The country codes that were already captured stay in the database; they just stop being shown. Turning the setting back on shows them again.
