Discount codes for photo reviews

Reward customers who add photos with an automatic discount code

Photo reviews convert significantly better than text-only reviews, but customers don't take photos by default. The simplest way to get more of them is to offer a small discount in exchange. The app generates a unique discount code for each customer who submits a photo, automatically — no manual code creation required.

Turning it on

In the app, go to Settings and find Photo review discount. Toggle it on and pick:

  • Percent off — typically 10–15% works well. Less than 10% feels like a token; more than 20% trains customers to wait for the discount.
  • Code prefix — short identifier so you can spot them in Shopify analytics (for example, REVIEW- produces codes like REVIEW-ABC123).

How the customer experiences it

  • Customer submits a review with at least one photo
  • The thank-you page shows the code immediately
  • The same code is included in the follow-up email (so they don't lose it)
  • The customer applies the code at checkout on their next order

The code is unique per customer — it can only be used once. This prevents bulk sharing on coupon sites.

How the code is created

Behind the scenes, the app calls Shopify's discount API to create the code automatically. It uses your store's currency and applies to the customer's whole next order. You can view all generated codes in Shopify Admin > Discounts — they're tagged so they're easy to find.

When this pays off

  • Stores with mostly text-only reviews see the biggest lift
  • The conversion lift on product pages with photo reviews typically more than covers the discount cost
  • New stores: turn this on from day one to build a photo-review library faster
  • Established stores: turn it on for 60–90 days to backfill photo reviews on your top products

When NOT to use it

  • Luxury brands that don't discount on principle
  • Products with strong margins where any discount hurts unit economics
  • Sale items that already have a markdown — stacking discounts gets expensive fast
