Helpful voting
Let shoppers upvote the reviews that helped them decide
Helpful voting lets shoppers upvote the reviews that actually helped them decide. Over time, the most useful reviews bubble to the top — without you having to curate anything. The app tracks votes per visitor so the same person can't stuff the count.
What customers see
Under every review in the widget, there's a small Was this helpful? prompt with a thumbs-up button. Clicking it increments the helpful count for that review. The count shows next to the button (for example, "5 found this helpful").
How votes are tracked
Each visitor can vote once per review. The app tracks votes with a browser-side fingerprint, not a Shopify login — so guest shoppers and logged-in customers both can vote. Voting again on the same review from the same browser is a no-op.
What this changes on the storefront
- The helpful count is purely informational right now — it shows under each review but doesn't re-order the list
- A future setting will let merchants sort by "most helpful" by default
- Votes are also visible in the admin so you can see which reviews resonate most
Why helpful voting matters
- Quality discovery — the reviews that explain why someone loved a product tend to outrank the "love it!" reviews over time
- Engagement signal — shoppers who vote spend more time on the page, which Google notices
- Free moderation — if a review consistently gets downvoted (when down-voting is enabled), it's a signal to look at it again
Privacy
- Votes are anonymous — no customer identity is attached
- The fingerprint is browser-only and not synced across devices
- You can clear all votes on a single review from the admin if needed
