Visitor 404 Tracking
How the app embed reports storefront 404s through /apps/seo-turbo/404
When visitor 404 tracking is on, the SEO Turbo app embed tells SEO Turbo about pages visitors can't find, so they appear under Broken links.
When it fires
A small script runs only when:
- the SEO Turbo app embed is on in your published theme,
- Track pages visitors cannot find is on in Settings, and
- Shopify is showing its 404 template.
It sends one request per missing page view, using navigator.sendBeacon where available so it never slows the page down.
What is sent
Only two values:
- path - the missing page's path, for example
/products/old-name - referrer - the page the visitor came from: the path if it was on your store, or just the domain if it was another website
No cookies, IP addresses, customer details or query strings are stored.
Where it's sent
The request goes to /apps/seo-turbo/404 on your own store domain. That's a Shopify app proxy: Shopify signs the request and forwards it to SEO Turbo, which checks the signature before saving anything. It only works from your storefront with the app embed installed.
Paths that are ignored
Some requests are never stored:
- Bot probes, such as
/wp-admin,/xmlrpc,/cgi-binor files ending in.php,.envor.sql - Shopify system paths such as
/apps/,/cdn/and/.well-known/ - Customer-specific paths such as
/accountand order status pages, since those can contain private tokens
To protect your list from abuse, SEO Turbo also limits how many reports it accepts per store per minute and caps the number of open visitor-reported links.
Privacy
SEO Turbo stores only the missing address, where it was linked from and how many times it was hit. Nothing identifies the visitor.
To turn tracking off, switch off Track pages visitors cannot find in Settings.
