llms.txt or agents.md Not Changing
Why your store still shows Shopify's default llms.txt
If your store still serves Shopify's default llms.txt or agents.md after you've set yours up in SEO Turbo, check the following.
The template isn't in your published theme
Shopify only uses templates from your published theme. Make sure you pasted the template into the live theme, not a draft or duplicate. Run Check AI discovery: under Your theme templates, each file shows whether it's installed.
Wrong file name or folder
The file must be in the templates folder, not snippets or sections, and named exactly:
llms.txt.liquidfor /llms.txtagents.md.liquidfor /agents.md (Shopify also uses it for llms.txt and llms-full.txt when those templates don't exist)llms-full.txt.liquidfor /llms-full.txtrobots.txt.liquidfor /robots.txt
You switched themes
Templates belong to a theme. After publishing a different theme, paste the template into the new theme too.
The template is out of date
When the status says Out of date - paste the new version, your llms.txt text or your catalog has changed since you pasted it. Click Copy llms.txt template again and replace the file's contents.
Your store is password protected
While your storefront is behind a password, AI crawlers (and SEO Turbo's check) can't read these files. The status shows Password protected until the store is open.
Shopify is still caching
After saving the template, give it a minute and run Check AI discovery again. The What your llms.txt says now preview shows what visitors actually get.
See AI Discovery for the full setup.
