SEO Scores and Issues
How each page is scored and what every issue means
The content audit reads every product, collection, page and blog post in your store and scores how each one will look in search results. The SEO content page lists them all, lowest score first, so you always know what to fix next.
What the content audit checks
The first audit runs by itself right after you install SEO Turbo. After that it runs again automatically (see SEO Settings), or you can click Run content audit on the SEO content page at any time.
For each item SEO Turbo looks at:
- The SEO title (or the page title Shopify uses when no SEO title is set)
- The meta description
- The amount of text on the page
- Image alt text
- The URL handle
- Whether another item uses the same title or description
Scores
Every item gets a score out of 100. Each issue found lowers the score, and more serious issues lower it more.
- Poor - under 60
- Fair - 60 to 84
- Good - 85 and above
The Average score at the top of the page is the average across everything audited.
Issues and how to fix them
Each issue has a severity: High, Medium or Low.
- No SEO title (Medium) - Shopify falls back to the page title. Write a title that leads with what people search for.
- Title too short (Low) - under 30 characters. Aim for 30-60 so it describes the page fully.
- Title too long (Medium) - over 60 characters. Google cuts titles at about 60, so the end is hidden.
- Duplicate title (High) - another item uses the same title. Make each title unique.
- No meta description (High) - Google picks random text from the page instead. Write 120-155 characters that make people click.
- Description too short (Medium) or Description too long (Medium) - aim for 120-155 characters; Google cuts descriptions at about 155-160.
- Duplicate description (High) - make each description specific to its page.
- No content (High) - the page has no text, so search engines can't tell what it is about.
- Thin content (Medium) - fewer words than pages of that type usually need to rank (about 50 for products, 30 for collections, 150 for pages and 300 for blog posts).
- Images without alt text (Medium) - alt text helps image search and screen readers. Add it in the Shopify admin on the product or page.
- Long URL (Low) - the URL handle is over 60 characters. Short, readable URLs are easier to share.
Finding what to fix
On the SEO content page you can:
- Filter by Type (product, collection, page, blog post)
- Filter by Score (Poor, Fair, Good, or AI suggestion ready)
- Search by title or handle
Click any item to open it. You'll see a Search result preview that shows roughly how the listing looks in Google, and a What to fix list with every issue on that item.
Editing a listing yourself
Under Edit manually you can type your own SEO title and Meta description and click Save to Shopify. This doesn't use any AI rewrites. The change is written to the product, collection, page or blog post in Shopify and the item is scored again straight away.
If you change your mind, click Undo to put back the title and description the item had before the last change.
Prefer to let AI write it? See AI Rewrites.
Plan limit on items audited
Each plan audits up to a set number of items: 150 on Free, 2,000 on Growth, 20,000 on Pro and unlimited on Plus. If your store has more, SEO Turbo audits the most recently updated items. See Plans and Pricing.
