CSV Address Import
Import addresses from a spreadsheet — at checkout and in the admin
Typing dozens of addresses by hand is the slowest part of a large multi-address order. Both your customers and you can skip it by importing addresses from a spreadsheet saved as a CSV file.
Customers can import at checkout
On the address step of the split shipping flow, customers will find an Import addresses from CSV link along with a Download sample CSV link. Uploading a file adds every address and selects them automatically, ready for item assignment. This is available on every plan.
- The sample file shows the expected columns: first name, last name, company, address, apartment, city, state, ZIP, country, and phone — plus two optional columns, gift note and delivery instructions, that fill in the matching fields for each shipment when you have those features enabled
- Column headers are accepted in your store's language — a customer can upload a file with headers like "Vorname" or "住所" and it will import correctly, and the sample file downloads with headers in the customer's language
- If a row leaves the country blank, the country your customer is shopping in is used
- Logged-in customers who import an address that exactly matches one already saved to their account get that saved address selected rather than a duplicate
- If someone uploads an Excel file by mistake, they see a friendly message asking them to save it as CSV first
Importing in the admin
The same import is available to you when splitting an order or building a MultiShip order in the admin. In the split editor, choose Import to upload a CSV of recipient addresses — each row becomes one shipment, and you assign items afterwards. Gift note and delivery instruction columns are carried into each shipment, and a blank country defaults to your store's own country.
Tips for clean imports
- Use the sample file as your starting point — its column names always work
- Two-letter country codes (US, CA, DE) are the most reliable way to fill the country column
- Rows missing a street address, city, or ZIP are skipped, so a partial list still imports the complete rows
