Manual Goals & Country Overrides
Set your own goal instead of the detected one, for every country or for specific ones
Detected goals fit most stores, but not every free shipping offer lives in a shipping rate. You might advertise "free shipping over $75" but implement it at checkout another way, run a promotion the app can't see, or want one country to show a different amount from what Shopify would suggest. Manual goals and country overrides cover these cases. Both are Growth plan features and both are managed on the Shipping goals page. On the Free plan the bar always shows what your Shopify shipping settings say, so a wrong goal is fixed by correcting the rate in Settings > Shipping and delivery and clicking Sync now.
Manual Mode
Manual mode replaces the detected goals with one goal of your own for every country.
- Open Shipping goals and switch Goal source from Automatic to Manual.
- Choose the default goal:
- Threshold — Free shipping over an amount you enter, in your store currency. Shoppers in other markets see it converted to their currency.
- Always — Free shipping on every order.
- None — No free shipping. The bar shows the "not available" message or hides.
- Click Save.
The detected zones and discounts stay listed on the page for reference, so you can compare what you set against what Shopify would have shown. Switching back to Automatic restores the detected goals immediately.
Manual goals are not connected to your checkout. If you tell shoppers "free shipping over $50" but your shipping rates charge for a $60 order, they will find out at checkout. Keep manual goals in step with what you actually charge.
Country Overrides
An override sets the goal for one country. It wins over everything else — the detected goal in automatic mode and the default goal in manual mode — so it is the right tool when one country is the exception.
- On Shipping goals, find Country overrides and click Add override.
- Pick the country and its goal: threshold (in store currency), always, or none.
- Click Save. The country now shows this goal regardless of what your zones or discounts say.
- To go back to detection for that country, remove the override.
Like manual mode, country overrides are available on the Growth plan and up. On the Free plan the controls are shown but can't be edited.
Typical Uses
- A promotional goal — You want to show "free shipping over $40" during a sale while your permanent rate stays at $50. Set a manual default or an override for the countries in the sale, and remember to remove it afterwards. On Premium, scheduling can turn the whole bar on and off around the sale for you.
- A country with a special deal — Your EU zone is free over €80 but you ship free to Ireland on every order through a checkout rule the app can't see. Add an Ireland override set to Always.
- Hiding a country's goal — A country is in your Rest of world zone, but you'd rather not promote free shipping there. Add an override set to None.
- A free rate that depends on weight — The app shows it as free shipping with a warning. If heavy orders don't ship free, set an override with the wording that fits, or use manual mode.
Which Goal Wins
When several settings could apply to a country, the order is:
- A country override for that country.
- In manual mode, the manual default goal.
- In automatic mode, the detected goal from zones and discounts (lowest threshold wins, "always" beats any threshold).
- The Rest of world zone's goal, if there is one; otherwise no free shipping.
