Multi Ship calculates shipping rates separately for each address in a split order. You can configure how shipping costs are presented to customers and set up free shipping rules.
How rates are fetched
When a customer assigns items to addresses, Multi Ship requests shipping rates from Shopify for each address individually. The rates shown are based on your existing Shopify shipping zones and profiles. You do not need to configure shipping separately in the app.
Free shipping threshold
In Settings > Shipping, you can set a minimum cart total that qualifies for free shipping. When the customer’s total meets or exceeds this amount, shipping is automatically free for all addresses. This works alongside any free shipping rules you already have in Shopify.
Skip shipping step
When free shipping applies to all addresses in a split order, you can enable Skip shipping step to bypass the shipping rate selection entirely. This streamlines the checkout flow for customers who qualify for free shipping.
Hiding rates on split orders
Available on the Growth plan and above. All shipping rates come from your store’s shipping settings — there is nothing to configure in the app — but sometimes a rate that makes sense for regular orders doesn’t suit split shipments. A common example is a free-shipping threshold: split an order into several small shipments and each one may suddenly qualify for free shipping.
In Settings > Shipping, you can add rules that hide rates from split shipments:
Rate name contains — hide any rate whose name contains a word you choose, like “Express”
Rate price is below — hide rates cheaper than an amount you set
Rate price is above — hide rates more expensive than an amount you set
Rules apply at the moment rates are shown, so they always reflect your current store settings. If your rules would hide every available rate for a destination, all rates are shown instead — a customer is never left without a shipping option.
Handling fee
The handling fee is available on the Growth plan and above. In Settings > Shipping rates, you can add a handling fee that applies to each destination in a split order. When enabled, the fee is added on top of the shipping rate shown for every address — for example, a $0.50 fee on an order shipping to 3 addresses adds $1.50 to shipping. Customers pay it as part of shipping, so it isn’t listed as a separate line on the order.
Charge a handling fee — turn the fee on, then set the amount charged per destination.
Waive the fee when shipping is free — skip the fee for any destination that already qualifies for free shipping.
Once enabled, the fee is applied automatically every time an order is split — there’s nothing else to set up.
Important notes
Shipping rates depend on your Shopify shipping zones being properly configured. If a customer enters an address outside your shipping zones, no rates will be available for that address. Make sure your shipping zones cover all regions where you want to offer split shipping.
