Installation
Install Recently Viewed from the Shopify App Store. Click Add app, review the permissions, and click Install app.
After installation, you’ll see the setup guide in your app dashboard. Follow these steps to get the widget working on your store.
Choose Your Theme
Select which theme you want to use with Recently Viewed. You can install the app on your published theme or a theme you’re working on. Development themes are not supported.
Enable the App Embed
The app embed is what powers the Recently Viewed widget. To enable it:
Go to Online Store > Themes in your Shopify admin
Click Customize on your theme
Click App embeds in the left sidebar
Find Recently Viewed and toggle it ON
Click Save
The app embed must be enabled for the widget to track products and display on your store.
Add Widget to Product Pages
Now add the Recently Viewed widget section to your product pages:
In the theme editor, navigate to a product page
Click Add section where you want the widget to appear
Select Recently Viewed from the Apps section
Adjust the position by dragging the section
Click Save
You can add the widget to other page types too, like your homepage or collection pages.
Customer Account Page (Optional)
If you use Shopify’s new customer accounts, you can add a Recently Viewed page where customers can see their browsing history:
Go to Settings > Customer accounts in Shopify admin
Under “Customer account extensions”, the Recently Viewed page will appear automatically
This step is optional and requires the new customer accounts feature to be enabled.
Verify Installation
To make sure everything is working:
Open your store in an incognito or private browser window
Browse a few different products
Navigate to a page where you added the widget
You should see the products you just viewed
If you see your recently viewed products, the installation is complete.
Choose a Plan
Recently Viewed offers generous plans based on unique visitors who browse products. Because we count people (not sessions or page views), these limits go much further than typical analytics numbers:

Low Traffic | 10,000 | Small businesses with steady traffic |
Medium Traffic | 35,000 | Growing stores |
High Traffic | 150,000 | High-volume stores |
We only count visitors who view products, and repeat visits are free. Most stores use far less than their plan allows compared to their Shopify traffic numbers.
You can change your plan anytime from the app dashboard.
