This guide walks you through installing Wishlist and completing the initial configuration.

Installing from the Shopify App Store

  1. Visit the Wishlist app listing in the Shopify App Store

  2. Click Add app

  3. Review the permissions and click Install app

  4. You’ll be redirected to the app dashboard

App Permissions

Wishlist requires the following permissions:

  • Read products - To display product information in wishlists

  • Read customers - To associate wishlists with customer accounts

  • Write metafields - To store wishlist data

  • Read themes - To integrate with your theme

Enabling the App Embed

The app embed is required for wishlist functionality to work on your storefront.

Automatic Setup

  1. From the app dashboard, click “Install App Embed” in the setup guide

  2. This opens your theme editor with the Wishlist embed highlighted

  3. Ensure the toggle is ON

  4. Click Save

Manual Setup

If you need to enable the embed manually:

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes

  2. Click Customize on your active theme

  3. Click the App embeds icon (puzzle piece) in the left sidebar

  4. Find Wishlist and toggle it ON

  5. Click Save

Verifying Installation

After enabling the app embed:

  1. Visit any product page on your store

  2. You should see wishlist functionality (buttons or icons based on your settings)

  3. If nothing appears, check that the app embed is enabled

Setup Guide

The app dashboard includes a step-by-step setup guide:

Step 1: Choose Theme

Select which theme to install to. You can install on: - Your live theme - A trial/unpublished theme for testing

Step 2: Enable App Embed

Adds the core wishlist functionality to your theme.

Step 3: Add Button Block

Places a wishlist button on product pages. You can customize its position and appearance.

Step 4: Configure Settings

Customize behavior, notifications, and appearance in Settings.

Multiple Themes

If you use multiple themes (for seasonal updates or A/B testing):

  1. Each theme needs the app embed enabled separately

  2. Button blocks must be added to each theme

  3. Settings apply across all themes

Uninstalling

If you need to uninstall:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps and sales channels in Shopify Admin

  2. Find Wishlist and click Uninstall

  3. Customer wishlist data is preserved for 30 days

Reinstalling within 30 days restores all customer wishlists.

Troubleshooting Installation

App embed not showing

  1. Clear your browser cache

  2. Try a different browser

  3. Check that you’re on the correct theme

Button block not available

  1. Ensure the app embed is enabled first

  2. Button blocks appear in the “Apps” section when adding blocks

Changes not appearing on storefront

  1. Make sure you clicked Save in the theme editor

  2. Clear your browser cache

  3. Check for theme caching plugins or CDN settings
