Welcome to Wishlist! This guide will help you enable wishlists on your Shopify store in minutes.

What is Wishlist?

Wishlist allows your customers to save products they’re interested in and return to purchase them later. This increases engagement, reduces cart abandonment, and helps customers remember products they love.

Why add wishlists to your store?

  • Customers can save products without committing to purchase immediately

  • Reduce lost sales when customers can’t remember products they viewed

  • Build customer loyalty with personalized product collections

  • Gather insights about which products generate the most interest


Getting Started

1. Install the app

After installing from the Shopify App Store and authorizing the app, you’ll see the setup dashboard.

2. Complete the setup guide

The dashboard shows a step-by-step setup guide. Follow each step to enable wishlist functionality.

3. Enable the app embed

The app embed loads wishlist functionality on your storefront. This is required for buttons and icons to work.


Your First Wishlist Setup in 4 Steps

Step 1: Choose Your Theme

  1. In the setup guide, click the theme dropdown

  2. Select your live theme (or a trial theme for testing)

Step 2: Enable the App Embed

  1. Click “Install App Embed” in the setup guide

  2. This opens your theme editor with the app embed highlighted

  3. Make sure the toggle is ON (enabled)

  4. Click Save

Step 3: Add a Button to Product Pages

  1. Click “Add Button Block” in the setup guide

  2. Position the button where you want it (usually near Add to Cart)

  3. Customize the appearance using block settings

  4. Click Save

Step 4: Enable Customer Accounts

Wishlists work best with customer accounts:

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Customer accounts

  2. Enable customer accounts (optional or required)

  3. Consider adding a login link to your navigation


Verify Your Setup

After completing these steps:

  1. Visit your store as a customer

  2. Log in to a customer account (or skip if guest wishlists are enabled)

  3. Navigate to a product page

  4. Click the wishlist button to add a product

  5. Access your wishlist via the header icon


Tips for Success

Start simple

Begin with the default settings. You can customize colors, icons, and behavior later.

Test as a customer

Create a test customer account and go through the full wishlist experience before promoting the feature.

Enable guest wishlists

If you want visitors to save products without creating an account, enable guest wishlists in Settings.

Add navigation

Consider adding a “Wishlist” link to your store’s navigation menu so customers can easily find their saved items.


Common Questions

Q: Will this work with my theme? Yes! Wishlist works with all Shopify themes through the app embed feature.

Q: Do customers need to create an account? By default, yes. However, you can enable guest wishlists to allow non-logged-in visitors to save products.

Q: What happens if I uninstall? Customer wishlists are preserved for 30 days. If you reinstall, data will be restored.

Q: Can customers share their wishlists? Yes, if you enable the sharing feature in Settings.
