Customer Account Announcements

An announcement bar can appear in two places: on your storefront (the default) or inside your store's customer account pages – the screens a signed-in shopper sees when they view their orders and profile. A customer-account announcement is a simple, native-looking notice for logged-in customers, and it is a good spot for order updates, loyalty perks, account-only offers, or a link to a survey.

Each bar targets one place at a time. The Where it shows setting at the top of the editor decides which.

Where it Shows

At the top of the announcement editor, under Status and display, the Where it shows dropdown has two options:

• Storefront (default) – The bar appears on your online store, with all of the styling, targeting, and scheduling options.
• Customer accounts – The bar appears inside customer account pages instead of the storefront.

Choosing Customer accounts simplifies the editor: the settings that only make sense on the storefront are hidden, because customer-account announcements use your store's native account styling.

Adding the Extension

Customer-account announcements render through a Shopify customer account announcement extension. This is an optional component that you add once to your customer accounts.

When you select Customer accounts, the editor shows a short reminder with a Manage extensions link. From there you can open the Extensions page to add the customer account announcement component. Until the extension is added to your customer accounts, the bar has nowhere to display.

What Appears in Customer Accounts

Customer-account announcements are intentionally simple. A bar shows:

• The first message and its link, on a single row.
• Your store's native customer-account styling, so it matches the rest of the account pages automatically.
• Alignment – left, center, or right, set in the Design section.

What Does Not Apply

Because the announcement uses the native customer-account style, storefront-only options do not apply and are hidden while Customer accounts is selected:

• Background and text colors, and background styles (gradient, striped, etc.)
• Countdown timers
• Animation styles (fade, running line, typed)
• Sticky and dismissible behavior
• Position and display mode
• Page targeting (customer-account announcements are not page-specific)
• Additional messages – only the first message is shown

If you need any of those, use a Storefront bar instead.

Setting One Up

1. Open or create an announcement bar.
2. Under Status and display, set Where it shows to Customer accounts.
3. If you have not already, use the Manage extensions link to add the customer account announcement extension to your customer accounts.
4. Write your message and, optionally, add a link with link text.
5. In Design, choose an alignment (left, center, or right).
6. Save. The preview shows how the notice will look in the account pages.

Switching Where it shows back to Storefront restores all of the storefront styling and targeting options for that bar.
