Admin Extension
View what products your customers have been browsing directly from the Shopify admin. The admin extension adds a Recently Viewed section to customer profiles, helping you provide better customer service.
What It Does
When viewing a customer’s profile in Shopify admin, you’ll see a Recently Viewed section showing the products that customer has browsed. This gives your team valuable context for:
Answering customer questions
Making personalized recommendations
Understanding customer interests
Following up on abandoned browsing sessions
Enabling the Extension
The admin extension activates automatically when you install Recently Viewed. To verify it’s working:
Go to Customers in your Shopify admin
Click on any customer profile
Scroll down to see the Recently Viewed section
If you don’t see the section, make sure the customer has browsed products while logged in.
Viewing Customer History
The Recently Viewed section shows:
Product images: Thumbnail of each viewed product
Product titles: Links to the product in your admin
View dates: When the customer last viewed each product
View count: How many times they’ve viewed the product
Products are sorted by most recently viewed.
Using Insights for Customer Service
Answering Product Questions
When a customer contacts support, quickly see what they’ve been looking at. This helps you provide relevant answers without asking them to describe the product.
Making Recommendations
See a customer interested in a specific category? Suggest related products or let them know about sales on items they’ve viewed.
Following Up
Identify customers who’ve viewed high-value items multiple times. A personalized follow-up could help close the sale.
Privacy Considerations
Customer browsing data is only visible to staff with customer access in your Shopify admin. Customers can clear their browsing history from their account page at any time.
