Stock Take includes a native Shopify POS extension so you can run inventory counts, receive stock, and process transfers directly from the POS app — without switching to a separate screen or the Shopify Admin. Everything stays in POS.
Opening Stock Take in POS
A Stock Take tile appears on your POS home screen. Tap it to open the full inventory management interface. The tile also shows how many items are in any active scan session, so you can pick up where you left off.
Starting a New Scan
Tap New Stock Scan and choose what you want to do:
Count — check that physical stock matches what Shopify expects
Receive — add incoming stock to your inventory
Transfer — move stock to or from another location
Receiving Stock
When receiving, you can start three ways:
Manual — start with an empty list and scan items one by one
From a Purchase Order — pick an open PO and the expected items are pre-loaded; you scan against them as you unpack
From a Transfer — pick an incoming transfer from another location; the expected items are pre-loaded the same way
Inventory Counts
You can count everything at your current location, or narrow it down by collection, vendor, or product tag to do a targeted count of just one part of your catalogue.
Scanning Products
Once a session is open, scan products using:
Camera — tap the scan button and point the device camera at a barcode
External scanner — connect a Bluetooth or USB scanner; the app picks it up automatically
Search — type a product name or SKU to find it manually
For inventory counts, each item shows its Expected quantity alongside what you’ve counted. A Discrepancies Only toggle lets you filter to just the items where your count doesn’t match, making it faster to spot problems.
For transfers, the app shows the Available quantity at the current location so you don’t accidentally transfer more than you have.
Completing a Scan
When you’re done, tap Complete to choose how the results are applied to Shopify:
Replace Stock — sets inventory to exactly what you counted (full count mode)
Add to Stock — adds your scanned quantities on top of existing inventory (useful for partial counts or receiving)
Records Only — saves the scan for historical reference without changing any inventory in Shopify
Tap Complete Stock Take to confirm. The app updates Shopify inventory and shows a success confirmation.
What’s Not Available in POS
A few things are only available from the Shopify Admin version of the app:
Creating purchase orders — POs are created in the admin; POS can receive against them
Managing suppliers — supplier records are managed in the admin
Importing items via CSV — only available in the admin
Everything else — counting, receiving, transfers, and scanning — works fully in POS.
