An Inventory Count lets you check that what’s physically on your shelves matches what Shopify thinks you have. The app loads your expected quantities, you scan what’s actually there, and any differences are flagged so you can review them before committing.
Starting a Count
Click New Stock Scan, select Count, and choose the location you’re counting. The app loads your current Shopify inventory for that location. You can count everything, or filter to a specific vendor or product tag to do a partial count.
Scanning Products
Walk your shelves and scan each product:
First scan adds the product with a count of 1
Scanning again increments the count
Tap the quantity field to type in a number directly
The Expected vs Counted comparison updates as you go.
Understanding the Status Column
Each item in the list shows one of these statuses:
Not counted — you haven’t scanned this product yet
Match — your count matches what Shopify expects
+N (green) — you have N more than expected (overage)
-N (red) — you have N fewer than expected (shortage)
Handling Items You Haven’t Scanned
Products you don’t scan stay in Not counted status. Before committing, you need to decide what to do with them:
If you forgot to scan it, scan it now
If you genuinely have zero of that product, click the status badge to confirm zero
If you want to skip it entirely and leave Shopify unchanged, leave it as not counted — uncounted items are not updated when you commit
The Mark all uncounted as zero button at the top lets you quickly set all unscanned items to zero in one go.
The Progress Bar
The progress bar at the top shows how many items you’ve counted out of the total, so you can see at a glance how far through you are.
Committing the Count
When you’re satisfied with your counts:
Review any discrepancies and confirm they’re accurate (recount anything that looks wrong)
Decide what to do with any uncounted items
Click Commit to update Shopify
Items you counted are set to exactly your counted quantity. Items confirmed as zero are set to zero. Items left as uncounted are not changed.
Tips
Divide your space into sections and count one at a time — it’s easier to stay organised
Use an external scanner for large counts; it’s significantly faster than the camera
Name your count with the date and area (e.g. “Warehouse — March 2026”) so you can find it in history
If something looks wrong, recount before committing — it’s much easier than fixing it afterwards
