Locations

Stock Take works with your Shopify locations to manage inventory where it actually is. Select the right location for each stock take to keep inventory accurate across all your stores and warehouses.

Updated this week

Stock Take uses your Shopify locations to make sure inventory changes go exactly where they should. Every time you start a scan session, you pick the location you’re working in. All changes from that session — whether receiving, counting, or transferring — apply only to that location.

What Counts as a Location

Your locations come directly from Shopify. They could be retail stores, warehouses, fulfilment centres, or any other place you store stock. If it’s active in Shopify, it appears in Stock Take.

Choosing a Location

When you click New Stock Scan, you’re asked to choose a location before starting. Double-check this before you begin — committing a scan to the wrong location means stock goes to the wrong place.

What Each Scan Type Does to a Location

  • Receiving — adds the scanned quantities to the chosen location

  • Inventory Count — adjusts the chosen location’s inventory to match your counts

  • Transfer Out — removes items from the source location

  • Transfer In — adds items to the destination location

Location Limits by Plan

Your plan determines how many different locations you can use with Stock Take:

  • Starter — 1 location

  • Basic — 3 locations

  • Professional — 10 locations

  • Enterprise — unlimited

The app counts unique locations you’ve actually used for stock takes. Using the same location multiple times doesn’t use up your allowance. If you’re approaching your limit, you’ll see a warning banner. Upgrade your plan to unlock more locations.

Tips for Multi-Location Stores

  • Always double-check the location before starting a scan — it’s easy to start one session and forget you changed location

  • Name your scan sessions to include the location (e.g. “Sydney Store count — March 2026”) so the history is easy to read

  • Keep transfer sessions up to date — completing both the send and receive steps promptly keeps your location-level stock accurate
