Translations
Translate the app interface into multiple languages
Translations let you change the labels and text inside the Image Gallery admin to a language other than English. They apply to what you and your team see while managing galleries — they don't change anything on your storefront, because gallery images and the theme block use whatever language your Shopify theme is configured for.
Where Translations Apply
- Inside the app admin - Buttons, labels, error messages, and help text in the merchant interface.
- Not on your storefront - The theme block uses your theme's locale. Image titles, alt text, and any storefront-facing text live in your theme's settings or are edited per-image in the app.
Switching Your Admin Language
The app follows your Shopify admin's language preference automatically:
- Open your Shopify admin language settings - In Shopify admin, click your name in the top right, then Manage account > Language.
- Pick a language - Image Gallery will display in the chosen language the next time you reload the app.
If your language isn't listed yet, the app falls back to English. Get in touch if you'd like to see a language added.
Translating Image Titles and Alt Text
Image titles and alt text are stored per image in your library. If you sell in multiple markets and want different text for different storefront languages, the best approach is:
- Use Shopify Markets to set up storefront localization.
- Use the Translate & Adapt app (or a similar Shopify-native translation tool) to translate image alt text and titles into market-specific languages.
Image Gallery doesn't currently offer per-language image text on the storefront — the title and alt text you save in the app are what's shown to all visitors.
Plan Requirements
Admin translations are available on all paid plans. See the Plans page in the app for the latest details.
