Cart and checkout display settings control how customer selections appear after they add to cart. By default, all option selections are shown as line item properties in cart and checkout. You can customize this behavior per option.
How It Works
By default, when a customer selects an option value (e.g., picks “Red” for a Color option), that selection appears in the cart and checkout as a line item property like “Color: Red”. This helps customers verify their choices and helps your team fulfill orders accurately.
The selection appears in:
Shopping cart
Checkout page
Order confirmation email
Order details in Shopify admin
Hiding Selections from Cart & Checkout
If you don’t want a particular option’s value to appear in cart and checkout:
Edit the option
Open Cart & Checkout and toggle Customize
Check Hide in cart & checkout
Save the option
This is useful for options that are purely visual (like dividers or headings) or for internal-use options where the selected value isn’t meaningful to the customer.
Custom Display Labels
Change how option names appear in cart and checkout:
Edit an option
Open Cart & Checkout and toggle Customize
Enter a label in Cart/checkout label
Leave empty to use the option name
Examples:
Option name “engraving_text” → Cart label “Engraving”
Option name “wrap_style” → Cart label “Gift Wrap”
This creates cleaner, customer-friendly display without changing your internal naming.
Merge to Product
For priced options, choose whether they appear as separate line items or merge into the main product:
Disabled (default) - Priced options appear as separate cart line items. Customers see the main product plus each add-on with its own price.
Enabled - Priced options merge into the main product price. Customers see one line item with the combined total.
To enable merging, edit the option and check Merge into main product in the Pricing & Quantity section.
Plan Requirements
Cart and checkout display customization requires the Professional plan or higher.
