Guest Wishlists

Allow visitors to create wishlists without creating an account.

Guest wishlists remove friction for first-time visitors. Instead of requiring an account upfront, shoppers can start saving items immediately. When they’re ready, their saved items seamlessly merge with their account—nothing lost, no extra steps.

Enabling Guest Wishlists

  1. Go to Wishlist > Lists & Guests

  2. Toggle Enable Guest Wishlists ON

  3. Click Save

Visitors can now save items without logging in or creating an account.

Email Capture for Guests

Optionally collect email addresses from guest users:

  1. Go to Wishlist > Lists & Guests

  2. Toggle Capture Guest Emails ON

  3. Configure when to ask for email:

    • On first add - Ask immediately when saving first item

    • On wishlist view - Ask when they view their wishlist

    • Never - Don’t collect emails

Captured emails can be used for:

  • Remarketing campaigns

  • Back-in-stock notifications

  • Abandoned wishlist reminders

How Guest Data Syncs When They Log In

When a guest creates an account or logs in:

  1. Their guest wishlist is automatically detected

  2. Items are merged with any existing wishlist

  3. Duplicate items are handled intelligently

  4. Email associations are updated

The transition is seamless - customers don’t lose their saved items.

Privacy Considerations

Guest wishlists are stored in the browser using local storage:

  • Data stays local - Wishlist data is stored in the customer’s browser

  • No account required - Visitors maintain privacy

  • Clear on browser clear - Data is removed if browser data is cleared

  • GDPR compliant - No personal data stored without consent

When email capture is enabled:

  • Emails are stored securely in your Shopify admin

  • Customers can request data deletion

  • You control how emails are used
