Troubleshoot when the Recently Viewed widget isn't appearing on your store.

Widget Not Showing

If the Recently Viewed widget isn’t appearing on your store, follow these steps to diagnose and fix the issue.

Check the App Embed

The app embed must be enabled for the widget to work.

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize

  2. Click App embeds in the left sidebar

  3. Find Recently Viewed in the list

  4. Make sure the toggle is ON

  5. Click Save

If you don’t see Recently Viewed in the app embeds list, try reinstalling the app.

Verify Section Placement

The widget only appears on pages where you’ve added it as a section.

  1. In the theme editor, go to a product page

  2. Look for a Recently Viewed section in the sidebar

  3. If it’s not there, click Add section and select Recently Viewed

  4. Save your changes

Repeat for any other pages where you want the widget to appear.

Theme Compatibility

Recently Viewed works with all Shopify 2.0 themes. If you’re using an older theme:

  • Check if your theme supports app blocks

  • Contact the theme developer about app block support

  • Consider upgrading to a Shopify 2.0 theme

Clear Your Cache

Sometimes browser caching causes the widget not to appear:

  1. Clear your browser cache

  2. Try viewing your store in an incognito/private window

  3. Hard refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R)

Check for Script Conflicts

Other apps or custom code might conflict with the widget:

  1. Temporarily disable other apps one by one

  2. Check your theme’s custom JavaScript for errors

  3. Look for console errors in browser developer tools (F12)

The Widget Is Empty

If the widget appears but shows no products:

  • The widget only shows products after a customer has viewed them

  • Try browsing a few products first, then return to the page with the widget

  • Make sure the products you viewed are still published and available

Contact support with:

  • Your store URL

  • Which theme you’re using

  • Screenshots of your app embed and section settings

  • Any error messages you see in the browser console
