If a social proof widget or the recently viewed section isn’t appearing on your store, follow these steps to diagnose and fix the issue.
Check the App Embed
The app embed must be enabled for widgets to work.
Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize
Click App embeds in the left sidebar
Find Social Proof in the list
Make sure the toggle is ON
Click Save
If you don’t see the app in the app embeds list, try reinstalling the app.
Verify Block Placement
Social proof widgets (live visitor count, cart activity, sales count) only appear on pages where you’ve added them as blocks.
In the theme editor, go to a product page
Look for the widget block in the sidebar
If it’s not there, click Add block and select the widget from the app section
Save your changes
Check Widget Settings
Widgets may be hidden due to their settings:
Enable toggle — Make sure the widget is enabled in Settings > Social proof widgets
Minimum count — The widget hides when the count is below this number. Try setting it to 1 for testing.
Hide when empty — If enabled, the widget hides when there’s no data. Disable this temporarily to verify the widget loads.
Theme Compatibility
The app works with all Shopify 2.0 themes. If you’re using an older theme:
Check if your theme supports app blocks
Contact the theme developer about app block support
Consider upgrading to a Shopify 2.0 theme
Clear Your Cache
Sometimes browser caching causes widgets not to appear:
Clear your browser cache
Try viewing your store in an incognito/private window
Hard refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R)
Check for Script Conflicts
Other apps or custom code might conflict with the widgets:
Temporarily disable other apps one by one
Check your theme’s custom JavaScript for errors
Look for console errors in browser developer tools (F12)
The Recently Viewed Widget Is Empty
If the recently viewed widget appears but shows no products:
The widget only shows products after a customer has viewed them
Try browsing a few products first, then return to the page with the widget
Make sure the products you viewed are still published and available
