Updated today

Scheduling lets you set start and end dates on your quantity rules so they activate and expire automatically. This is useful for time-limited promotions, seasonal restrictions, or pre-order windows.

Setting Up a Schedule

  • Go to Rules and create or edit a rule

  • In the Schedule section, set a start date, an end date, or both

    • Start date only – The rule activates on that date and stays active indefinitely

    • End date only – The rule is active now and automatically turns off on that date

    • Both dates – The rule is only active during that window

  • Save the rule

Time Zone

Schedules use your store’s time zone as configured in Shopify Admin > Settings > General. All start and end times are midnight in your store’s time zone.

Use Cases

  • Flash sales – Set a maximum quantity of 2 per customer during a 24-hour sale event

  • Seasonal limits – Limit holiday items to 5 per order during November and December

  • Pre-orders – Set a minimum order quantity during the pre-order window, then remove it at launch

  • Wholesale windows – Open bulk ordering only during specific weeks

What Happens When a Rule Expires

  • The rule automatically stops being enforced – no action needed from you

  • The rule stays in your list with an “Expired” status so you can reuse or edit it later

  • Products affected by the expired rule revert to their default behavior (or any other active rules)

Plan

Requires the Growth plan or higher.
