The lightbox lets visitors click any image in your gallery to view it full-size on a dimmed overlay, then page through the rest of the gallery with previous and next arrows. Captions display each image’s title and description, either on hover or below the image, depending on what fits your design.
Turning the Lightbox On or Off
The lightbox is configured in the block’s settings inside the theme editor, not in the app:
Open the theme editor - Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize and find the page with the Image Gallery block.
Click the block - The block settings panel opens on the right.
Toggle Enable lightbox on click - On by default. Turn off if you want clicks on images to do nothing (for example, if you’re showing the gallery as decorative content).
Save - The change is live on your storefront immediately.
Lightbox Background
When the lightbox is on, you can choose how the overlay looks:
Dark - A near-black overlay (~92% opacity). The default, and the right choice for most stores — it makes images pop and feels cinematic.
Light - A near-white overlay (~95% opacity). Use this if your store has a light, airy aesthetic and dark overlays feel too heavy.
Navigating the Lightbox
Visitors can move through your gallery without closing the lightbox:
Previous and next arrows - On screen at the left and right edges.
Keyboard arrows - Left and right arrow keys cycle through images.
Escape key - Closes the lightbox.
Click outside the image - Also closes the lightbox.
Image Captions
The block has two caption settings — Image titles and Image descriptions — and each offers the same three choices, so you can show one, both, or neither:
Hidden - No caption appears. The cleanest look — good when images speak for themselves.
Show on hover - The text appears as an overlay when the visitor hovers (desktop) or after a tap (mobile). Keeps the gallery uncluttered but lets curious visitors see context.
Show below image - The text sits as a small caption underneath each image. Always visible — good for lookbooks where you want to credit products, models, or locations.
Descriptions render smaller and slightly subdued next to the title, so a title plus a description reads as a heading and a line of detail rather than two competing captions.
Where Captions Come From
Captions come from the Title and Description fields on each image. To edit them:
Open the gallery in the app.
Hover the image you want to update and click the edit icon in its top-right corner.
Edit the Title - Shown wherever Image titles is set to hover or below.
Edit the Description - Shown wherever Image descriptions is set to hover or below.
Edit Alt text - Separate from the caption. Alt text is for accessibility and SEO and is read by screen readers and search engines.
Click Save in the editor - The tile updates on the spot, and the change applies to every gallery using that image.
If an image has no title, no title caption is shown for that image even when captions are enabled — the same goes for descriptions.
