Multiple Wishlists
Allow your customers to organize their saved products into multiple lists. This helps customers categorize items by occasion, priority, or any criteria they choose.
Enabling Multiple Lists
Open the Wishlist app in Shopify Admin
Go to Settings
Find Storefront Settings
Toggle Allow multiple lists ON
Click Save
How It Works
Adding Items
When multiple lists are enabled:
Customer clicks the wishlist button
A dropdown or modal appears showing their lists
They check which list(s) to add the item to
They can create new lists on the fly
Split Button Design
On product pages, the wishlist button becomes a split button:
Main button - Adds to the default list with one click
Dropdown arrow - Opens the list selector
This provides quick one-click adding while still offering list selection.
Quick Add Icons
When clicking a quick add icon on collection pages:
Single variant products show the list selector directly
Multi-variant products show variant selection first, then list selection
Removing Items
Clicking the wishlist icon on an already-saved item removes it from all lists at once.
Customer Portal
In the customer wishlist portal, customers can:
View all their lists in a tabbed interface
Switch between lists
Move items between lists
Create new lists
Rename existing lists
Delete lists (items are removed, not moved)
Default List
Every customer has a default “Wishlist” that cannot be deleted. This ensures:
There’s always a list available
Quick-add without selection still works
Backward compatibility with single-list mode
List Names
Customers can name their lists anything they like. Common examples:
Birthday Wishlist
Holiday Gift Ideas
Home Office Setup
Future Projects
Gifts for Family
Creating Lists
Customers can create new lists:
From the list selector - Click “+ Create New List” when adding an item
From the portal - Use the “Create List” button on their wishlist page
A simple modal prompts for the list name (maximum 50 characters).
Considerations
Simplicity vs. flexibility - Some customers prefer a single list; know your audience
Mobile experience - The list selector is optimized for mobile with easy-to-tap checkboxes
Disabling Multiple Lists
If you prefer the simpler single-list experience:
Go to Settings
Toggle Allow multiple lists OFF
Click Save
Existing customers keep their lists, but won’t be able to create new ones. Consider communicating this change if you have active users with multiple lists.
